Grounds for obtaining a residence permit

1. Employment. The most common way to obtain a residence permit is through employment in Slovakia. The employer must provide a contract or a job offer. The applicant for a residence permit must submit an application, attaching documents proving the employment relationship.

2.  Entrepreneurship. Opening a business in Slovakia is also a basis for obtaining a residence permit. It is necessary to register a company and prove the availability of funds to run the business.

3. Education. Foreign students enrolled in Slovak educational institutions may obtain a residence permit for the duration of their studies. For this purpose, it is necessary to submit documents proving enrolment in an educational institution and financial solvency.

4. Family reunification. Family members of a Slovak citizen or a foreigner with a valid residence permit may apply for a residence permit for family reunification. This includes spouses, children and parents.

5. Scientific activity. Researchers and scientists working on scientific projects in Slovakia can apply for a residence permit.

5. Investments A residence permit may be granted to foreign investors who invest significantly in the Slovak economy.
